As with most marketing activity, achieving success with search engine positioning requires making a continuous effort.
Google constantly changes how it ranks sites so keeping an eye on their Webmaster blog and reacting is essential. Along with this, customers and Google alike prefer to see an active, frequently updated site.
Therefore, we always recommend SEO be a long term strategy for your site. Over the past 8 years, we've refined our experience into a simple, 4-step monthly plan.

1. Research
We'll start by asking what you're aiming to get out of the SEO. More visitors usually, but a goal such as "increase the widget enquiries" helps focus the SEO and ensure increased visitor numbers are relevant - something Google does consider.
From this we'll produce a list of phrases worth optimising for. We do this by taking the obvious ones based around your industry, use software tools to derive variations & correlate with the actual search phrases people use and the level of competitiveness per phrase.
2. Improve
We'll make improvements to the text on your pages and work at adding relevant links between your own pages & from other sites.
To ensure your site stays fresh, you need to regularly add new content such as news, case studies, reviews etc. Most sites have a content management system (CMS) to let you add pages yourself.
We'll suggest (but not write!) new pages to add, then review your words and suggest / make text changes.
Google provide Webmaster Tools where we'll review suggestions, creating any missing feeds or sitemaps.
Lastly, we'll help make sure you're getting the most out of social networks.
3. Measure
Without measuring the effect of SEO improvements, it's impossible to know whether the work has been successful.
We measure the number of visitors to your site, the Google position for each of your agreed phrases & the goals you're aiming to get out of the SEO work. If you have a blog, we'll measure the people subscribed to it.

4. Report
Monthly measurement reports are automated so we can put all our effort into the SEO. You can login and view these at any time.
